Holland, MI - The Larry Murray Award, created 14 years ago by the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan, represents leadership, innovation, achievement and making an impact among other criteria. Larry Murray was the founder, and first Executive Director of the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan, his third career. He was a great leader, and a strong advocate for older adults.
The award, not given every year and in the beginning, only to organizations, has been awarded to two individuals, one of which is Jo VerBeek, Director of Care Services of Evergreen on September 29, 2016 by the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan.
Join us in congratulating Jo VerBeek, who has been with Evergreen Commons in Holland, Michigan for over 20 years, currently the Director of Care Services has been instrumental in improving and expanding the Adult Day program. The Day Center of Evergreen, often the standard to duplicate, focuses not only on the need of the participant, but also on the caregiver. The focus is on the person, programming, and physical setting apparent in the popularity of the program within the community. Jo’s advocacy efforts for clients, caregivers and the adult day program have been recognized by both the Michigan Adult Day Service Association as well as the National Association of Adult Day Service. Her expertise in this field was a fundamental resource for Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan’s development of standard Adult Day program outcomes.
The Day Center of Evergreen provides a safe, warm and inviting daytime environment. Adults who need assistance can engage in meaningful and therapeutic activities which help meet social, emotional, and physical needs. Additional services include; health monitoring by nursing staff, nutritious lunch, respite for caregivers, optional transportation, barrier-free whirlpool tub and shower facility, caregiver training and support, possible funding assistance.
Evergreen is a 501(c)3 community benefit organization offering opportunities, programs and services for adults, age 50+, to live fully while they age in place. We focus our efforts in two areas: Healthy, active adults age 50+ and those needing care and assistance.
